A spectacular performance of Carmina Burana closed the 25th year of the festival

Carl Orff’s world-famous cantata rounded off the jubilee year of the festival.

Carl Orff’s world-famous cantata rounded off the jubilee year of the festival in the Brewery Garden on 6th August. The monumental piece was performed by the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra under the leadership of Petr Vronský and the soloists were soprano Natalia Roman, who comes from Moldova, South African countertenor Roger O. Isaacs and Norwegian baritone Audun Iversen. The Kühn Choir of Prague and the Czech Philharmonic Children’s Choir also sang. The 170 interpreters on stage earned a thunderous applause. “The concerts in Český Krumlov have a unique atmosphere, here you can feel history from every stone. That is why I really like to come back as a conductor. Today’s concert was excellent, all the three soloists have performed their parts on world-famous stages, they know what they are singing about and interpret their roles scenically. It was incredibly charming,” said conductor Petr Vronský after the concert. Soprano Natalia Roman also showed her appreciation for the concert, “Carmina Burana belongs to my favourite repertoire, therefore it was a pleasure to sing it also here in Český Krumlov, it is a beautiful historic town. This is the third time I have performed in the Czech Republic, I like this country and the Czech audience.” Countertenor Roger Isaacs made his second appearance at the IMF Český Krumlov, “I would like to thank the festival for the opportunity to come back to Český Krumlov after a year. I have really fallen in love with this town – the Masquerade Hall, where I sang last year, was the most beautiful concert venue I had ever performed in. And the reception of the audience which I received was beautiful and I am glad that I was able to take part in the 25th jubilee year,” Isaacs showed his appreciation. “The audience was delighted and it was also thanks to their support that the concert went exceptionally well. I met the other two soloists for the first time at this concert and we immediately “clicked”. During rehearsals and during the concert there was a friendly atmosphere and the beautiful scenery of Český Krumlov helped. It is impossible to be in a bad mood here. The combination of the historical centre, the river and the surrounding hills is fantastic, I will be happy to come back, as a performer or as a tourist,” said baritone Audun Iversen.
