On Thursday 4th August Sandoval made an appearance in a classical concert program at the Castle Riding Hall, where he performed the world premiere of his Concerto for trumpet and orchestra No. 2. Besides that the audience also heard Sandoval’s interpretation of the Concerto for trumpet and orchestra in A flat major by A. Arutiunian. Arturo Sandoval was accompanied by the South Czech Philharmonic under the baton of Jan Kučera. “I have been Arturo’s admirer since I was a teenager, at the time I tried to play jazz, and I have had all his CDs at home for more than 20 years. Therefore it is a beautiful moment for me to meet him in person on one stage,” said conductor Jan Kučera. Arturo Sandoval and the South Czech Philharmonic earned a thunderous standing ovation for their performance. They were rewarded by three improvised encores. “Conductor Jan Kučera is a truly exceptional musician. The orchestra was great and managed to express the essence of the composition which I wrote. It is a completely new opus and tonight I heard it live for the first time. When you write a new concert and play it in front of the people for the first time, the emotions are very strong and many things go on in your heart. You are under certain pressure and the reaction of the audience is most important for you. The viewers were fantastic, enthusiastic. They appreciated the new composition and understood it very well. It was simply an unforgettable evening for me,” said Arturo Sandoval after the concert.
