They played the Concerto for violin, piano and orchestra in D minor by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. “I don’t play Mendelssohn’s Double concerto very often as it is more difficult for the organizers to invite two soloists at the same time. Therefore I am really glad that I had the opportunity to play it in Český Krumlov tonight with such an excellent pianist as Jan Simon,” said Václav Hudeček after the concert, who virtually travelled to Luhačovice directly from the stage at the Castle Riding Hall to open the 19th year of his summer violin school, Václav Hudeček’s Academy. “Václav Hudeček has an incredibly positive drive and I always enjoy the concerts with him,” is how Jan Simon expressed his appreciation for his colleague. “Besides that Český Krumlov is really close to my heart, it is impossible not to enjoy playing here.” Václav Hudeček is also a regular guest at the festival in Český Krumlov, not only as a soloist, “I really like the festival in Český Krumlov, we come here every year with my wife even when I don’t have a concert. With a few exceptions we haven’t missed a single official opening during the existence of the festival. It is a magical town and is unparalleled in its category in the world. It is unique and inimitable.” After the interval the South Czech Philharmonic under the leadership of Vojtěch Spurný played the Serenade in C major by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. “I have been regularly cooperating with the South Czech Philharmonic for more than ten years, I like to return to them and I have many friends among the members of the orchestra. It is one of the few orchestras which are willing to experiment. I look forward to future cooperation with them,” said conductor Vojtěch Spurný. Besides the setting and the artists also the weather can influence the atmosphere of a concert. Just before the concert large raindrops started falling from the sky and in a short while turned into a heavy downpour which brought the audience to the concert hall just in time. The hostesses did not even have to use the bells to let the festival visitors know that the concert was about to start. During the composition a continuous whirring sound could be heard in the hall as torrents of rain fell on the roof of the riding hall as well as several loud thunders. But the rain stopped as quickly as it came. During the interval there was not a trace of it and when the large doors on the sides of the hall which lead directly outside opened, the viewers could enjoy a wonderful evening with the setting sun.
