The year 2014 has been announced the Year of Czech Music. Therefore, also the dramaturgy of the International Music Festival Český Krumlov 2014 focuses on Czech music, without neglecting excellent world production. The face of the festival and main star is the German tenor Jonas Kaufmann, who will open the 23rd year of the IMF Český Krumlov on 18th July with an opera gala concert. On the second day the festival will then offer the complete interpretation of Smetana’s My Homeland performed by the North Czech Philharmonic Teplice. Other evenings will be dedicated to Czech music as well. On 26th July violin virtuoso Ivan Ženatý will perform at the Castle Riding Hall with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra in a program called A Tribute to Antonín Dvořák, on 8th August Russian violoncellist Natalia Gutman will play with the Munich orchestra Kammerphilharmonie dacapo in the program A Tribute to Czech Music. The cycle of chamber concerts at the Masquerade Hall will this time be dedicated mainly to Czech performers. Violoncellist Jiří Bárta, pianist Terezie Fialová, harpist Jana Boušková and the ensembles Škampa Quartet, Collegium 1704, Trio Martinů and Pavel Haas Quartet will perform. The Czech theme will be present during the evenings of different genres as well: on 2nd August the Czech National Evening will take place and on 9th August the audience will enjoy an evening with melodies from Czech musical films and musicals interpreted by popular musical stars. The closing gala concert on 16th August will then be dedicated to opera and singing stars of the legendary Grand Theatre in Moscow known as “Bolshoi Theatre”.
One of the concerts will traditionally be dedicated to the members of the IMF Český Krumlov Friends Club – this time it will be the concert of violin virtuoso Ivan Ženatý, which will take place on 26th July at the Castle Riding Hall. Ivan Ženatý will be accompanied by the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Ion Marin. Club members have free admission to this concert or a significant discount, according to the type of membership card.
We trust that also this year’s festival will bring you many once-in-a-lifetime experiences. The organizers of the festival, International Music Festival Český Krumlov, o.s. and Auviex, s.r.o., look forward to meeting you.
