3rd Festival Week: Guitar, Violin, Pantomime and Musicals

The third festival week will bring two more chamber concerts. Lubomír Brabec will make an appearance at the Masquerade Hall with his guitar recital (29/7) and a day later it will be the time of the Slovak quartet Mucha Quartet, accompanied by Vladimír Kulíšek’s pantomime (30/7).

On Friday 31/7 the concert of violin virtuoso Pavel Šporcl, described by critics as “a talent born perhaps once in a hundred years”, will take place at the Castle Riding Hall. His performances are acclaimed both by the general public and professional critics. Besides the core consisting of classical music he also gives concerts of different genres. He has appeared on stage with Karel Gott, Eva Pilarová, Vojta Dyk, Ewa Farna and the bands Kryštof and Hradišťan. His extensive repertoire includes 40 violin concertos, countless sonatas, chamber and virtuosic pieces. World-renowned critic and historian Henry Roth included Pavel Šporcl – as the only Czech violinist of the young generation – in his book “Violin virtuosos: from Paganini to the 21st century”. Pavel Šporcl will be accompanied by the South Czech Philharmonic under the baton of Jan Talich. After the concert the protagonists will meet the members of the IMF Český Krumlov Friends Club.

The musical genre will return to Český Krumlov on the first evening in August. In the past years the IMF Český Krumlov offered the series titled A Night on Broadway, an evening of rock operas called Broadway Rocks and an excursion into the world of Czech musicals. This year’s program bears the name James Bond Music and World Musicals, therefore the audience will hear music from James Bond films such as Goldfinger, Live and Let Die and Diamonds Are Forever. Viewers may also look forward to the biggest hits of the musical repertoire such as The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, Chicago, Cabaret and Cats. A trio of singers from Broadway theatres, Debbie Gravitte, Capathia Jenkins and Hugh Panaro, will sing. The soloists will be accompanied by the North Czech Philharmonic Teplice under the leadership of American conductor Michael Krajewski. The concert will be held on 1/8 under the open skies in the Brewery Garden.

The festival takes care of the children’s audience too. For the fifth time the festival has prepared the Children’s Afternoon in the Rhythm of Energy in cooperation with the official partner of the festival, the energy group E.ON. The program, which is full of competitions, workshops, games and songs, will take place on the riverfront by the Brewery Garden on Sunday 2nd August from 14:00 till 18:00. Admission is free. Actress Marie Doležalová will guide the audience through the afternoon, the Maxim Turbulenc band and illusionist Pavel Kožíšek will perform. Rafting is prepared for those who will be interested.
