The Smetana Trio has received a BBC Music Magazine Award. Congratulations!

And we are looking forward to their performance at the IMF Český Krumlov. Come to the Masquerade Hall at the Český Krumlov Castle on 2nd August; the concert of the Smetana Trio starts at 7.30 p.m.

The complete recording of the piano trios by Bohuslav Martinů interpreted by the Smetana Trio was awarded the BBC Music Magazine Award in the chamber music category. Yesterday pianist Jitka Čechová received the award at King’s Place in London. The Smetana Trio had already received the award in 2007 for the recording of Dvořák’s trios. “We rejoice doubly. Above all due to the fact that many other doors to world renowned stages have opened for the specific music of Bohuslav Martinů. His trio chamber works certainly deserve the attention of ensembles all around the globe and also thanks to the BBC may soon become an integral part of their repertoire,” said Jitka Čechová.

The Smetana Trio received the BBC Music Magazine Award for the second time after ten years. “It is an amazing feeling. We perceive this as a confirmation of the meaningfulness of our activities and correct interpretational adaptation of the heritage of our geniuses,” the pianist confided. In the case of the BBC Music Magazine Award it is the second most important British musical award in the field of classical music after the “Oscars of classical music”, the awards of the monthly Gramophone. The expert jury first chose three albums and the public decided on the winners.
