Castle Riding Hall Overwhelmed by Music “Maniacs”

The visitors of the festival at the Chateau Riding Hall spent the first evening of August in the company the Slovak ensemble The Classical Music Maniacs

This formation consisting of twelve musicians whose founder and leader is violinist and concertmaster of the Slovak Philharmonic Jarolím Emmanuel Ružička, performed a fusion of classical music, mostly baroque, with elements of jazz and Latin American rhythms. In the first part of the evening the musicians wearing jeans and trainers played a few of Bach’s compositions, in the second half the audience heard compositions by authors from Latin America. Miriam Rodriguez Brüllová, who performed at the IMF Český Krumlov in a chamber recital last year, played a guitar solo and Brazilian percussionist added an extra “punch” to the classical compositions with his drums. The final part of the evening was spiced up with tango performed by Karol Brüll and Viktoria Bolender. The audience at the Castle Riding Hall was so impressed with the program titled Bach Goes Samba and Tango with the subtitle “Bach with Trainers or a Bass Guitar” that they did not want to let the “Maniacs” leave the stage and elicited several encores. Besides Latin American compositions the audience also heard the song by Queen We Will Rock You in an untraditional string form, which elicited great response. “It is fantastic when a concert elicits response, when there is a spark between the stage and the auditorium like tonight and when the viewer accepts what the artist has to offer.” And how did the leader of the ensemble Jarolím Emmanuel Růžička get the idea of creating a program which connects things that are seemingly unconnectable? “I had been thinking about the idea of creating something different to what we are used to but at a top level with top musicians. Actually, we don’t have concerts in the literal sense, we have projects on different topics. Besides the project Bach Goes Samba and Tango we presented the project We Are The Champions, which connected classical music with the songs of the group Queen and from which the audience also heard an extract today. We always create a project and a recording from it and put it in a drawer and when there is interest in this project, we take it out of the drawer.” And what project are they preparing now? “Now we have a project called 007 about an author from the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire who was born in Slovakia, lived in Vienna, was the concertmaster of the Vienna State Opera, conducted, wrote operas, operettas and much more but after his death sank into oblivion ahead of us. We will reveal his name at the concert which we will have in September.”
