The third festival week started with chamber concerts at the Masquerade Hall. On Wednesday 29th July Lubomír Brabec performed his recital. He guided the audience through the works of composers from the Renaissance and Baroque period (John Dowland, Ivan Jelínek, Sylvius Leopold Weiss and Fernando Sor), in the second part of the program also authors from the turn of the 19th and 20th century, predominantly in his own adaptation. “The Renaissance and Baroque compositions which were played this evening were originally written for the lute so it was necessary to convert them into the guitar notation. Some of the more recent compositions were written for a completely different instrument, for example Leyenda by Isaac Albéniz was originally written for the piano.” The guitar evening was a great success and during the curtain call Lubomír Brabec amused the audience with the words, “Let’s make a deal – I have three encores and it is a long way to the backstage. I will play all of them together.” This elicited applause and after the three encores also a standing ovation. “It is always wonderful to play here in Český Krumlov. I always look forward to coming here, the festival has a great reputation,” said Lubomír Brabec after the concert. Besides his recitals, Lubomír Brabec cooperates with other interpreters in the field of classical music and not only in that field, “For example, I have a concert program with violinist Pavel Šporcl, violist Jitka Hosprová and violoncellist Jiří Bárta. I have also founded an orchestra called Brabec Baroque Ensemble. And I make excursions into popular music, a long time ago I played with Lucie Bíla, now we are preparing an evening of French chansons with Radka Fišarová, I perform with Daniel Hůlka and others.
