About artists


Adriana Kučerová follows up on the famous tradition of Slovak sopranos like Lucia Popo, Edita Gruberová or Ľubica Vargicová. She graduated from vocal studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava in Viktória Stracenská’s class and at the National Conservatory in Lyon. She has a number of prizes from international competitions to her credit, the most important success being first prize, absolute win and four other prizes at the international Hans Gabor Belvedere competition in Vienna in 2005. She was a guest at prestigious opera houses such as Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Bavarian State Opera, Vienna State Opera, Opera de Bastille in Paris, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Theater an der Wien, Houston Grand Opera; she has also made an appearance at the Glyndebourne Festival, Salzburg Mozart Wochen, Salzburg Festival, Prague Spring, BBC Proms and others. She has cooperated with renowned conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Gustavo Dudamel, Vladimir Jurowski, Riccardo Muti, Nicolaus Harnoncourt, Fabio Luisi and Kent Nagano. Recently she has played the main role in the opera The Cunning Little Vixen at the Hamburg State Opera, the role of Adina in the opera L’elisir d’amore at the Vienna State Opera (together with Juan Diego Flórez) and also in the production of the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires. She has recently appeared in the role of Rosina in the opera Il barbiere di Siviglia. In Slovakia she has performed on the stage of the Slovak National Theatre as Mařenka in The Bartered Bride. As a concert artist, in the past months she has given concerts in St. Petersburg, London, Rome, Stockholm, Barcelona, Prague and Tokyo. In the near future, she will interpret the role of Susanna in the opera Le nozze di Figaro in Dresden and the role of Juliet in the opera Romeo and Juliet in Tasmania.


Mezzosoprano Štěpánka Pučálková graduated from Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg under the leadership of Univ. Prof. KS Elisabeth Wilke and Prof. Eike Gramsse. At the same time she was awarded the Lilli Lehmann medal from the organization Stiftung Mozarteum. In 2015 she was a finalist of the international singing competition Hans Gabor Belvedere in Amsterdam. In 2016 she took part in the international singing competition Concours International de Belcanto Vincenzo Bellini in Marseille, where she received the second highest awarded prize, the “Prize for the Best Female Voice”. She made an appearance in a number of productions of Mozarteum University Salzburg and Landestheater Salzburg. In the summer of 2013 she performed at the Salzburger Festspiele as Lehrbube (Meistersinger von Nürnberg) under the baton of Daniele Gatti and under the direction of Stefan Herheim. She has made appearances as Mercedes (Carmen) at the Landestheater Bregenz and Landestheater Salzburg. Last year she performed at the prestigious 50th year of the Salzburg Easter Festival in the role of Siegrune (Die Walküre) under the baton of conductor and artistic director of the festival Christian Thielemann, with the accompaniment of the Staatskapelle Dresden and under the direction of Vera Nemirová. In January of this year she made an appearance at the Mozart’s Birthday concert at the Estates Theatre (Stavovské divadlo) under the baton of maestro Plácido Domingo. From the 2018/2019 season she is a soloist of the Semper Oper in Dresden.


Metropolitan Opera Tenor, Richard Troxell’s career has ranged from the starring role of Pinkerton in Martin Scorsese’s Sony Film of “Madama Butterfly” to being a recurring guest on Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night, to climbing out of the sewers of Seville as Don Jose at the Sydney Opera House in Carmen, to singing the National Anthem for MLB’s ALCS Championship to costarring on Broadway with the beloved Broadway soprano, Melissa Errico, to singing the role of the dwarf in Zemlinksy’s “Der Zwerg” at Avery Fisher Hall. Playing 17 yr old Romeo followed by 84 yr old Galileo all in the same year is a typical season for this versatile singer/actor. Richard’s beautiful lyric tenor voice has been thrilling audiences in leading roles at opera houses and concert halls around the world, among them Los Angeles Opera, Washington Opera, Sydney Opera, Beijing, Houston Grand Opera, New York City Opera, L’Opéra Comique in Paris, Monte Carlo, Teatro Petruzelli, Seville, Philadelphia, Boston Lyric, Santa Fe, and now Trinity Wall Street.

Bass-baritone Boris Prýgl belongs to the most talented young singers. From the 2019/2020 season he will be a soloist of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and he has been a member of the Opera Studio of this opera. A student of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava in Peter Mikuláš’s class, Boris Prýgl has several first prizes at international vocal competitions to his credit. In July 2017 he became the finalist of the Belvedere competition held at Opera Helikon in Moscow and he reached the final of the most famous world competition, Plácido Domingo’s Operalia, held at the opera in Astana, a metropolis in Kazakhstan. At this competition he won the Birgit Nilsson Prize and the Plácido Domingo Prize. In 2005 he was the absolute winner of the International Antonín Dvořák Singing Competition in Karlovy Vary. On the international scene he achieved success with a second place in Ferruccio Tagliavini’s competition. Boris got the first experience on stage as a guest soloist of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava and at the National Theatre in Brno, where he sang the role of tutor in the Czech premiere of Rossini’s opera Count Ory.


Prof. Leoš Svárovský graduated from flute and conducting at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague under Prof. Václav Neumann. He started his career at the National Theatre in Prague as Zdeněk Košler’s assistant. In 1991 Herbert von Karajan invited him to cooperate with Georg Solti, Claudio Abbado and the Vienna Philharmonic at the “Sommer Festspiele Salzburg”. Since 2000, Leoš Svárovský has been teaching in the department of conducting at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and in 2018 he achieved professorship there. Since the beginning of his career, he has held the post of chief conductor and first guest conductor in outstanding Czech and Slovak orchestras: Chamber Opera Prague, Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, State Philharmonic Brno, Sinfonietta Žilina, Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice, Prague National Theatre Ballet Orchestra, State Opera Prague (in 2003-2005 he was also the artistic director) and Slovak Philharmonic. Since 2014 he has been the chief conductor of the Aichi Central Symphony Orchestra Nagoya. He is the main guest conductor of the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra in Zlín and an honorary member of the Brno Philharmonic. He is regularly invited to stages of important music festivals both in the Czech Republic and abroad. His discography includes more than 24 CDs released by different music companies (Panton, Supraphon, JOD, Thoroform, WEA, Records, New Classic). Regular subscribers’ concerts in the Czech Republic and Slovakia as well as in Tokyo and Nagoya in Japan are also part of his busy calendar. He went on tour to Japan in February 2019 together with the Brno Philharmonic. He has also made a debut in Malaga, performed a concert in Moscow with the Tchaikovsky Orchestra and with the PKF – Prague Philharmonia in China. A tour in Korea with the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra awaits him in November 2019.

PKF – Prague Philharmonia is considered to be one of the greatest cultural phenomena of modern Czech Republic after 1989. It was founded in 1994 upon the initiative of conductor Jiří Bělohlávek (1946–2017) under the name Prague Chamber Philharmonic. From the start of the 2015-2016 season, French conductor Emmanuel Villaume has been its chief conductor. During its existence it has performed with a number of world-famous conductors and soloists: Christopher Hogwood, Julian Rachlin, Martha Argerich, Yefim Bronfman, Luciano Pavarotti, Anna Netrebko, Plácido Domingo, Elina Garanča, Juan Diego Flórez and many others. The ensemble is regularly invited to international music festivals and appears at the world-famous halls (BBC Proms, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Tokyo Suntory Hall, Royal Opera Muscat in Oman etc.). It has recorded more than 90 compact discs for leading Czech and world music companies: Deutsche Grammophon, Warner Classics, Decca, Supraphon, EMI, Sony Classical and Harmonia Mundi. It has received a number of awards for its recordings: Golden Record RAC Canada 2000, Harmony Award 2001, Diapason d´Or 2007. In 2018 its profile recording with works by Ravel, Debussy and Bizet was released by Warner Classics.
